OFFICIAL STATEMENT: Snake River Ranchers vs Federal Government

February 14, 2018

The Three Percenters - Original - Washington Chapter
Public Statement - FOR IMMEDIATE PUBLIC RELEASE – February 13th 2018

'The Three Percenters - Original' fully and wholeheartedly backs and supports rancher Walter “Sonny” Riley in Pomeroy, Washington. He is currently in a battle with the overreaching Army Corps of Engineers regarding use of public land and damages caused by his livestock.

This is yet another overreach by the Federal Government manufacturing a case in order to penalize a hard working rancher who grazes cattle on his private land which happens to be adjacent to the disputed property. His cattle occasionally grazed onto Federal Land that the Government has failed to secure with a physical barrier. Sonny now faces penalties for damages and use of public land that far exceeds damage done.

If the Government would have put up the proper fencing and enclosed the property, there would not be an issue. However, due to the negligence of the Army Corps of Engineers, we have another situation of a Federal agency trying to make an example of a hard working Americans by threatening and intimidating acts.

These tactics are similar tactics to those used by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) with Bundys and the Hammonds which lead to the eventual Bundy Ranch and Malheur National Wildlife Refuge Standoffs. These standoffs resulted in the murder of LaVoy Finicum on January 26, 2016. These military and harassing tactics are well documented in court records and have resulted in the Bundy Mistrial with Prejudice by the Federal Government.

We urge the Government and the prosecutor’s office in Spokane, Washington to work with the family to solve this issue in a civil manner that is workable from both sides. We urge the Assistant U.S. Attorney Vanessa Waldref to consider the proposals submitted to her office, which would resolve this issue peacefully.

We urge all members of our organization as well as the public to immediately contact U.S. Attorney Vanessa Waldref and their own representatives regarding this issue.

For ease you may copy and paste the following letter to send to your representatives:

Dear _____________,

My name is _____________ and I wanted to bring to your attention a disturbing situation between Federal Agencies and a private Citizen of Eastern Washington.

I wanted to bring your attention to the plight of the rancher Walter “Sonny” Riley in Pomeroy, Washington State and his battle with the Army Corps of Engineers over the use, and alleged damage by the use of public land that the government has brought against him.

I see this as yet another overreach of the Federal Government trying to penalize a hard working rancher who is using his land to sustain his family. It is unfortunate that his land adjoins the disputed property in which the Army Corps of Engineers has failed to fence. The penalties levied for damages and use far exceed what would be considered reasonable.

If the Government would have put up the proper fencing and enclosed the property, there would not be an issue. However, due to the negligence of the Army Corps of Engineers, we have another situation where a Federal agency is attempting to make an example of a hard working family by threats, intimidation and absurd fines. This assault on Americans with bullying by Federal agencies must come to an end.

These tactics are similar to those used by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) with Bundys and the Hammonds which led to the eventual Bundy Ranch and Malheur National Wildlife Refuge Standoffs. These standoffs resulted in the murder of LaVoy Finicum on January 26, 2016. These military and harassing tactics are well documented in court records and have resulted in the Bundy Mistrial with Prejudice by the Federal Government.

I would like to urge you as my representative in the Federal Government to urge the prosecutor’s office in Spokane, Washington to work with the family to solve this issue in a civil manner that is workable from both sides. I would hope that you could urge the Assistant U.S. Attorney Vanessa Waldref to consider the proposals submitted to her office, which would resolve this issue peacefully.

Respectfully,
